The project responds to a steeply sloped terrain, which led to a design strategy aimed at reaching one of the site’s highest elevations. From this privileged vantage point, the house opens broadly toward the valley, capturing a sweeping and profound view that becomes an essential part of everyday life. The design unfolds on a single level, extending longitudinally along the slope to blend with the landscape and avoid major interventions in the natural terrain. The house faces north, maximizing sunlight exposure and favorable climatic conditions, while ensuring that most of its spaces enjoy unobstructed views over the valley. The architectural program is organized from east to west. On the eastern end, a barbecue area (quincho), dining room, and living room serve as social and contemplative spaces, opening generously to the landscape. Toward the west, the private wing includes the bedrooms and more intimate rooms, offering shelter, quietness, and a personal connection to the environment. The house is shaped by the personal desires of its inhabitants, who envisioned a home inspired by science fiction. This is reflected in an architectural language of clean lines, with a form that evokes both the brutalist and the technical — almost like a habitat capsule perched on the terrain. Structurally, the project proposes a reinforced concrete chassis that anchors the house to the slope, serving as a robust and permanent base. Resting on this foundation is a secondary lightweight steel structure that defines the habitable volumes with precision and efficiency. House with a Ball is, at its core, a platform for observation — a quiet, elevated refuge where architecture does not compete with the landscape but frames and intensifies it.
